BACKSTORY:she was born not in Seville, but in a small fishermen town in southern spain on which blackbeard's crew wrecked havoc, leading to him raping her mother, consuelo, who then gave birth to angelica. seeing how she was unmarried and how the child was born without a father, the old priest of the town refused to baptize her, which ultimately lead to consuelo and her being ostracized. this made Consuelo's resentment against the child grow stronger and stronger, and she was abusive pretty much since the beginning, both verbally and physically. she never hid how angelica was conceived and often reminded her how she was "sin walking" or a disgrace, or any possible negative thing u can think of.

when angelica was 5, the priest died and a new, younger one took his place. when he learned Angelica wasn't baptized, he insisted on baptizing her which ultimately made life a little easier for Angelica and Consuelo. Angelica began working for him, basically her duties were cleaning the church and his rooms in exchange for some money and most of all, classes. He taught Angelica how to read, basic maths and the word of the Lord. He was also a missionary, and told her many stories of his travels which to her, who was stuck in that awful place, sounded so magical she fell in love and soon began fabricating her own. However, given how the conditions weren’t ideal and most people in town still looked down upon Consuelo (hence little to no work/money) she took her daughter and moved to Seville when Angelica was almost 7.

There, they became maids at a muslim doctor's mansion, Asbat. There, Angelica had quite a few duties, mostly helping Aya, Asbat's wife, with her daily and beauty routine and keeping her company (soon Aya discovered the child made up incredible stories and demanded she create some for her, so Angelica spent her days working and spinning tales). Aya wrote poems and while she understood Spanish, she willingly only spoke Arabic so Angelica learned the language through her. There, Angelica also met Amparo, an elder maid in that house who treated Angelica like her niece (angelica calls her her godmother) and partially shielded her from Consuelo's continuous abuse. Asbat also loved the child and soon allowed her into his office, so while helping him, Angelica learned medicine, how to treat wounds and such. However, Angelica had yet one more fault: she was beautiful, and she became a woman early, which lead to rumors spreading about her being Asbat's lover. to preserve her own reputation, Consuelo took her daughter and moved to another part of town where they found a job as washerwomen/maids to another rich couple.

this was definitely not a happy time in her life, she worked basically 18 hours a day which doesn't leave much room for anything, especially not reading, which she enjoyed so much. she kept making up stories, though, which she told her companions to keep them company as they worked. she used to sing a lot, too, and she has a very nice voice. truth be told, they envied her for that. as i said, they weren't exactly living the life, and were starving most of the time. angelica soon realized that being beautiful had its advantages: she could play with boys and, in exchange for (sexual) favors, get either money or food. it didn't make her feel good, but she tricked herself into thinking she was in charge, and could toy with them as she pleased. plus it got her food. her mother figured something was up, but as long as they got extra money/food she didnt complain. yet this did not go well for angelica, as a boy decided he would not play along anymore, and he assaulted her when she was 16 -she was singing by the river when it happened, hence why she doesn't really sing anymore. at least, not that song.

when her mother found out, she blamed angelica and threatened her that she shouldn't tell anyone, or else. half because of this, half because they had no money, at 17 angelica couldn't marry and joining a convent was her only option. she wasn't too unhappy about it as she did and does believe, but it still wasn't the life she wanted, as, all things said and done, it was like prison, given she was barely allowed to go outside. there, her main duty was taking care of the children's education (religious, mainly) since the nuns soon realized she was good w children and liked them a lot. however, she used to tell them stories to entertain them, but that often got her punished as the head nun considered those stories "pagan and blasphemous"; this eventually ended in a child being punished for her, and dying at the hands of said punishment, which destroyed angelica's spirit for a while. that, until she was told that she'd be sent into a cloistered convent.

the idea of never being able to exit into the world again almost drove her insane (or to suicide) so she was determined to find a way out, which presented itself in the form of jack sparrow. when jack showed up at the convent, she seduced him so that he'd allow her on board (it's a bit more complicated but in short that's how it went) and he did. truly, he fell pretty quickly for her. they sailed together for 4 years, during which she fell, too, and hard. she was madly in love with him -and might always kind of be. they parted after jack realized his deal with jones might put her in danger, so he pushed her away/rejected her, which hurt her so bad she walked away from the pearl and never came back. since the, she spent years going from crew to crew.

the first time she embarked on a ship different from the Pearl, she was assaulted, which is why she ended up deciding to pose as a lover to whatever captain she sailed under, to ensure herself protection. it worked, but it also means she spent years engaing in sex she didnt really want. the line of consent was very blurred. and it deeply affected her as a person. this is one of the reasons why, desperate to feel loved by just anyone, she went to tia dalma, asking to be revealed the name of her father. tia dalma told her, and she went looking for blackbeard. she found him about 3 months before the events of potc4. from then on, it's canon.after potc4, the way i write her, she joins forces w jack again (by chance) to get back the queen anne's from barbossa, and she does manage to. since then, she becomes captain and slowly builds her own crew.
